i haven't seen the film yet but will do one day.
hard to relate ones feelings in a post but -
    1) admire some greenies who give up their time to protect things like old growth forests from the greedy loppers sending OUR woodchips abroad.
eg doco on the Gunn's in tassie and corruption in gov etc
    2) stand at the front of any woolies or bunnings looking at the aisles and imagine how much plastic and cardboard packing exists, and where most of it ends up.
    3) how many people agree with 'saving the planet' but don't really do anything about it. because it won't affect us in our lifetime. (me included)
    4) does anyone (or can anyone) do anything about amazing new inventions that could save or replace fossil fuel. these inventions are usually bought by the greedy consortiums and 'buried'. (especially oil companies)
    5) as for turning the lights off last week( didn't know about that one).
i was remembering the 'crisis' last year when most W.A. businesses and shops had to turn off lights etc to save power. i went shopping and didn't crash into anyone in the aisles cause it was too dark.
create the "glare police" who go round buildings during the day with lightmeters. (especially in gov buildings)
    6) if our local council can force me to pay for putting the local electricity supply underground and the the state can force daylight saving on us-
why can't they force solar power on us.
if they had asked me if we want the electric underground for 'only' $1500, i would have told them to go away. but they did force it and now its done and paid .
i think people may have to be forced to do some things.

in summary, there are lots more to discuss, but so long as i toddle off to the supermarket and use my green bags, i'm doing my bit.
you can't beat that warm glow of satisfaction as you pile all your cardboard, paper and plastic covered items into that green bag.
i'm going to lie down now, goodnight

    Question:
What produces the most carbon dioxide and methane per year?
    A. Human activities
    B. Termite activities
    C. Percy Montgomery

    Answer:
    B. It's true. Google it if you don't believe me.

Percy hasn't needed to exhale yet, and human activities might not be as significant as you think.

Id iimagine it would be too expensive to figure something else out ... so governments wont try it until we really need a different source of power ...

By mandate Trans Pacific flights leave with enough fuel to fly most of the way back again however they are physically unable to land with that weight so most of it is dumped prior to landing.
The majority is said to vaporize at altitude however it is not the most environmental of approaches!

I'd have thought it would be better to jettison the Kiwis and save the fuel....

I do that on a daily basis.......but I think it adds to the methane levels.

Ah another amazing fact that first appears to blow the whole debate out of the water, if you want to live with your head up your arse.

It's the overall effect on the green house gases equilibrium that is the issue, i.e. the human impact on the natural cycles that have occurred since time begun. If you care to take a couple of minutes to read about it then you can easily find out what the human impact has been on the natural cycle and then you will see where the debate really lies. It is not the fact that we have impacted substantially on these cycles that is in question; it is whether the increases really do warrant concern. The termites do their thing and are in the natural cycle.

I'm not saying the following link is the complete story or factually correct but it does give a brief explanation of what some of the basic issues are.

but arent humans a part of the natural cycle? and it was only natural that we evolved in such a way we stopped physically evolving and started to change the environment to suite us? I agree we should do more to help conserve the environment but to what extent?!
