Taken from an e-mail I received today.....interesting.

"I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my
taxes as it sees fit. In order to get that pay cheque when I work on an
a W.A.mine site or a Kalgoorlie construction project, I am required to
pass a random urine test, with which I have no problem. What I do have a
problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to
pass a urine test.
Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare cheque because
I have to pass one to earn it for them?? Please understand, I have no
problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do on the other
hand have a problem with helping someone sit on their ass drinking piss
& smoking dope.
Could you imagine how much money the state would save if people had to
pass a urine test to get a public assistance cheque????? Please pass
this along if you agree or simply delete if you don't. Hope you all will
pass it along, though because something has to change in this country,
and soon!"

Tempting idea but the urine test is a work safety issue to protect the workers from accidents.

He gets tested to ensure the safety of others in the mine/construction site, NOT to earn his pay.

Mmm.

I can understand where the guy was going with this one. To tell the truth I agree that we (yes even me, I work too) shouldn't pay our taxes to somebody with the thought that it will get them back up and running, only to have them spend it on drugs or cheap hookers (). Maybe a urine test wouldn't be the best way to do it, but I go agree its a worthwhile idea.

Urine test only works in the identification of use of cheap hookers if you haven't worn a rubber.

BTW.....I didn't really think anybody would take it seriously.

Where's the evidence that most (or any, for that matter) people on welfare sit around smoking dope or drinking?

Is he raising the issue of the dehumanisation by alcohol and drugs of some Aboriginals and the absolute tragedy in indigenous camps in the north, blighted by neglect, abuse and white importunity? If so then his contempt should be directed at the Governments and policies that have allowed this to happen. It is a problem far wider than just the receipt of welfare.

My experience is that most unfortunates on welfare have enough trouble just paying for their meagre accomodation, if they have any, and feeding themselves and their dependants at a subsistance level, all the while tormented by their misery and dispair,to squander their pittance on drugs and liquor.

Many suffer intellectual and psychological disabilities on top of the stress, feelings of inadequacy, and shame that relying on welfare can bring.

Does anyone really believe any human being would want to be relying on welfare if he or she had a choice? Only some smug arsehole who has never experienced or seen human degradation or suffering would ever think so.

This is the sort of Young Liberal style crap that comes wafting out of the sewer of political grandstands every time an election is in the wind.




My rant. And no, I'm not having a go at TEF, who I'M sure is good for a shout or three out of his own hard earned without the necessity of a urine test.
