I must admit I am enjoying the discussion of this thread, thank you to all. Having not lived in WA since 1990 its incredible to learn some of the changes that have occurred in WA politics since I left.

Last night during the TWF chat I was asked if I had emailed the MP's Gerry had listed and I hadn't.

I don't believe that my contribution in that particular format has little or no bearing in the eyes of the current members of the Western Australian Parliament and for me to email the WA MP's would reduce the impact any emails that they might receive from WA based voters. I am after all enrolled to vote here in NSW.

Whilst I have been outspoken in my views of the need for a Rectangular Stadium in Perth. There is only so much that I can do from this side of this wide brown land we call Australia.

Only a semester to go. Incompetency in the Liberal Party is our biggest problem in the Carpenter government trying to win votes by building a stadium of our desire.

They can do nothing and they will still get oodles of votes, especially with the recent one vote one value electoral changes, which has seen a reduction in country seats - thus an increase in metropolitan seats (which are traditionally stronger Labor then Liberal and vice versa in the country).

Lets hope something happens within the stadium development however, by the time I turn 30.

Rather then them all replying to me individually.

I received an email from the WA Government saying:

    Dear Mr Beaver

We appreciate you bringing your comments regarding the proposed new sports
    stadium to the Government's attention.

We have noted your comments and brought them to the attention of the Hon John
Kobelke, Minister for Sport and Recreation, for his consideration.

Thank you for taking the time to raise this matter with the Government.

    Regards
    WA Govt

    Good work Beaver

I've set up a script that will shoot an email off to 102 members of parlianment garnished from the www.mp.wa.gov.au web site - but not sure if thats any better than just sending a single email to Kobelke. My local member is Kucera - I don' think he needs convincing

Unfortunately the Rabid Looney Gazette (aka the West Australian) is torn between two competing editorial desires on this issue, to tear the throat out of the encumbent government on any pretext whatsoever on the one hand, and to provide maximum support to the WA Football Commission on whatever folly they pursue, on the other.

We are therefore not able to garner any meaningful support or comfort from them, even though their chief garbage collector, sorry, reporter, Mark Drummond, is a true blue rugby man.

Frankly, for the time being, I believe a new rugby stadium is a wood duck, and rugby would be better served getting a managing interest in Members Equity (shouldn't be too hard, soccer is going down the toilet financially and support wise the way I see it) and committing some of its own money, plus seeking funds from ARU and a more realistic financial contribution from the government.

Lets get real ,we only get one test here each year, and a done up 30,000 seat stadium will do us for now until the political climate changes.

Expecting anything more will only result in disappointment.

    My two bobs worth.

Rugby Wa is not interested in MES as it is because of the lack of corporate facillities
that is the bottom line for them
how it affects the average punter does not concern them

Thought I should add the email Bob Kucera wrote back to me - I asked him "what I could do to help bring the issue of a suitable rugby stadium onto the agenda of the government/parliament?"

The answer was just as simple - it's effectiveness is to be seen

I'm going to put pen to paper to backup the email I send him

Isn't the theory that the improved viewing spectacle of a rectangular stadium will encourage 2006 Members back to be current Membership Holders and to grow the general admission?
The next stadium that WA Rugby gets will be the one we will be stuck with for the next 20+ years, let's not sell ourselves short.

Plans for a 30,000+ stadium have been drawn and looked at by the WA Government, and a decision shall be made before the 2007-08 campaign starts as to size, location and expenses. Glory would almost certainly play out of this ground if possible, and if Government statements are to be believed, it could be operational for the start of the 2010-11 campaign kicks off. It has been suggested to just build on to Members Equity, doubling the ground's current capacity as an all-seated undercover 30,000+ atmospheric stadium, although the Government has said it wishes to build a separate ground in another part of Perth.
Found this on the wikipedia site for Perth Glory. It is regularly updated and I would not be surprised considering the detail that it is from an official source. Have not seen any news articles and it is easy for rumours to be placed onto wikipedia.

Alas any positive speculation is good news

Egan, if you use "alas" out of context one more time you've got negative kudos coming your way!

Well travelling Gerry. I think it is a great idea some much so I have just sent it to 100 people that I know are rugby heads and pointed them to the post.
Although we need to do more....maybe a rally to MEQ stadium, a television/radio commercial, giant rugby ball that is passed from suburb to suburb, a drink-for-a-stadium at JB's!

All those ideas sound great! The rally seemed to do the trick for getting a team here. What about getting some input from the ARU?They are keen for the game to go national and would not be happy if membership here dropped again for the lack of a decent stadium.
