    Springboks RWC outfit - ????

Boks reveal their new kit by Stephen Nell

    Posted on Thursday, July 19, 2007 - 23:13

If you see a Springbok wearing a jersey with one long sleeve and one short sleeve during the rugby World Cup tournament this year, don't be concerned.

View the latest Bok video highlights

It is all part of the plan to bring the Webb Ellis Cup to South Africa.

The South African prop forwards will wear these unusual jerseys in France to make it more difficult for their opponents to get a grip on them in the scrums.

Jerseys designed for specific positions constitute one of the innovations that the sponsors of the Springboks' kit, Canterbury, have devised to give the South Africans something extra in the tournament in France.

However, the players will also wear conventional long and short-sleeve jerseys.,

"The South African jersey will have more characteristics and advantages than that of any other country," Canterbury's managing director Paul Zacks said when the team's World Cup outfit was introduced at Canal Walk here on Thursday evening.

The Springboks will also wear shorts with special inserts to assist them when they support lineout jumpers, and to ensure good binding in the scrums.

Zacks said the new gear had been developed over a period of three years.

"We invested a great deal of time and money to develop the best jersey in the world," he said.

Springbok captain John Smit was more than satisfied. "These are the little things that will make a difference," he said.

It will be interesting to how the re set count goes when SA play and if it leads to them getting more decision their way at the scrum.

Opposition Props might just have to bind onto their noses several times per scrum then...

    Turn it up John
And what happens when due to substitution the Prop has to change sides of the scrum???
What a wank, why not just go back to wearing a long sleeve jersey instead of looking like a tool? Seems to work for Habana alright with his undershirt.

What a load of crap. If that is going to win SA the World Cup why do they need players having little holidays during the Tri Nations?

The Sports Illustrated link on the right hand side of the page was interesting.

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

I'm really impressed that three years of research by the smartest minds in SA rugby came up with the same crap marketing bullplop that every other team with a Canterbury contract gets. Does this mean that Australia, Scotland and a host of other nations benefit from South African ingenuity and research or does it mean that after three years of extensive research into the impact that a jersey has on a players performance in the game of rugby the answer they got was F@&k all.

ps. I like the bit about inserts in the shorts.....I'd always suspected something about those posers!
