Forgive me, im a new man, says henjak.

as told to todays Sunday times, the story isnt on perthnow.com for some reason,

force half matt henjak has broken his silence and revealed he is having counselling on the dangers of alcohol abuse...it goes on to say reports into the incident in sydneys cargo bar in march this year are complete fabrication..

It probably isn't on Perthnow because the media flavour of the month is to show the as an unrooly bunch of irresponsible drunks.

Really thought this article was un- necessary - know he has copped a bit - know that he hasn't made it back into the Wallabies - but the hard work will pay off - watching his career from afar is a bit like waiting for the first home win - you always knew it was going to happen - it was just a question of when - Keep the Faith Matt - we appreciated your efforts last year - others can't miss turnaround either

    Agreed

...especially with all the bad press the Force have been getting as of late

On the other hand, was nice to hear that he's trying to get back on track

the Quokka thing had already been fully covered by the West a day earlier - Sunday Times had to come up with something....

There's been no dirt on Henjak since he signed with the Force - onya Yak

I disagree TQ1, this article isn't necessary for us, and neither is it necessary for those who've bothered to pay attention to the facts, but most of the public in Perth will only pay attention to the headlines of the story and not the substance of it. There is also a bunch of people who are looking to deflect publicity from the Cousins affair. I think a story like this needed to happen, sure it makes him look like yet another alcohol abuser in the but he already had that stigma from the South Africa story. He has ensured that the public record shows he is doing something about it, he can also now be asked in the media about his counseling because I suspect it's been happening over the long term.

Good on ya Henners, I'm sure if you read this forum, you already know what we think of you, but for completeness I'll restate it. We think you're great, and think the way you've found a place in the team is great. Kudos mate, you're really fighting the demons of the past well.

Actually, what I thought it was at least in part about was the quote earlier in the week from ARU deputy chief executive Matt Carroll...
"The actual (nightclub) incident per se was not of major significance but it was more a track record of his behaviour from Brumbies through Western Force through the Wallabies.".

    Hence the statement from Mitch...
"From my perspective I think he's matured enormously in the two years he's been with the Western Force. There's never been a problem in his time here."

For mine, the statement by Carroll is a worry and he should be called to account - it certainly doesn't sound like any sort of fair hearing is on the cards for team or players.

Yeah, I mentioned this comment in another thread on the topic, I agree with you AndyS, Carroll certainly seems to have an axe to grind!

My thoughts as well..a conspiracy aimed at showing that issues revolving player (mis)behaviour at the Eagles are really representative of the broader range of issues that most professional sporting bodies must endure; that the Eagles are not the only ones with a culture of drugs, booze and skulduggery.

i think Henjak as done a great job since he as been with the Force. He had the guts to come forward in the paper the other day and say what he did.
I think this coming year will be even a better year for him and with a new coach i think he may be looking at a recall to international duties.
    Go Yak

Could he just be doing this to cover his butt because of past or future alleged incidents or is it good management from the top??
