Mercurial Brumbies and Wallabies playmaker Matt Giteau is poised to sign with a French club within days, although he will not make the move until after the World Cup in October.
It is understood the race for Giteau's signature has come down to Toulon and Bayonne, although French powerhouse Toulouse has the resources to come in over the top at the last moment.....
I wouldn't be surprised - I always got the impression from Gits that he'd follow the best deal, rather than necessarily the best rugby.
French rugby clubs have the most money, although they're feeling the pinch of the GFC, so he might not get the same deal he would have if he'd left a couple of years ago.
Can't get much closer than the bench.
I can't imagine anybody taking that role from him..........but am willing to be proven wrong.
Let's not forget, it's a world cup year. Everybody tapers to this one, and the best team will hit the park every time. There's no thought for development in wc years, so the third best player will sit the bench. Unless rabbit is displaced from the wing (and I think that unlikely) gits is genuinely the bench option.
Read some of the comments on the original article.
There's a gunfight beginning between the grumbles supporters who say he's shit and the grumbles supporters who say he's had one bad season (ironically, they're the ones accusing others of a short memory, when they can't even remember 2009)

Anyother situation where Giteau says one thing and does another. I believe his words were something along the lines of 'I won't make any decisions until after the World Cup'.
Regardless of form, we need a bigger, straighter (in both senses) inside centre. I want to see a midfield of AAC at 12 and Digby Ioane at 13. Giteau to the bench. Let him cover 9/10/12 to that we can have another prop on the bench.
Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast.
I believe Henjak is still in Toulon - Gits is now mercurial - god how the worm has turned on him
61 years between Grand SlamsWas the wait worth it - Ya betta baby
Clever journo - being called mercurial could be either an insult or a compliment ...
Dear Lord, if you give us back Johnny Cash, we'll give you Justin Bieber.
To be honest, I've always seen Gits form as suffering most during uncertainty. Regardless of how anyone feels about him heading overseas, if it is sorted pre-season he at could at least be focused. Might do him a world of good, which would be great in a world cup year.
He clearly wants to win a world cup so i doubt he will be 100% sure of what he is doing until then. Unless he is afraid his value will go down by then i don't see any reason to believe these reports.
I'd love to see him at Beyonne.
