yeah, dispite the laws, i still thnk that the red was too harsh. definately yellow, just because it was past 90. but it wasn't a particularly bad tackle. it was not a spear either, it was a lifting.

it is really unfortunate as Wales DESERVE to be in their first final. but unfortunately, roland has played it by the book, unlike a lot of the stuff that happens on the ground (ie off feet etc). feelling very sad for the welsh.

Looking at this memo the decision was correct by the ref. it's not very consistently applied though as most other rules.

Total agree that all red cards should go to TMO

Bottom line is that once again the main factor in the final result of a close contest was not the relative strengths of the two teams but a judgement made at a critical time by the ref.

The ref could not have shown yellow. There was no judgement call from the ref required. Nor was it a gutsy move. There was no other option.

Maybe the judgement call should have been made by Sam Warburton at the time he effected the lifting tackle?

"The IRB memorandum issued on June 8, 2009 stated such tackles "must be dealt with severely by referees and those involved in the off-field disciplinary process."

Independent judicial officer Christopher Quinlan of England said Rolland's decision to send off Warburton, criticised by many pundits, was in line with IRB directives and concluded the offence was "mid-range" on the scale of seriousness, which has an entry point of six weeks.
