Just a hint of irony there?

Sare's jaw is broken dead centre of the chin, must have been some punch.

That's a strange place to bust a jaw with a punch - sounds to me more like a head hitting the floor. Not necessarily a fall, could just be a bit of wrestling/rolled over/weight of bodies etc, especially on tiles. My guess is we'll never know though.

Most disappointing and serious part of this dilemma is why were 7 or 8 of our players out on a serious 5 hour binge when they are highly paid, supposedly fit elite athletes, about to embark on the clubs third season. If we want to escape ridicule from the rest of the Aussie press we cannot tolerate this kind of behaviour. All players involved should be severely punished and Sare & Henjak thrown out in disgrace. The photos posted on the site today are evidence enough. If the club does not act and instill some discipline into these overpaid adolecents we may as well become a rugby league club and wellcome the culture that has pervaded that game for decades. These players have insulted their supporters and the other 17 or 18 members of the squad. Believe me, this club is at the crossroads which is why the cancer has to cut out immediately. Right now, I don't think there would be too many players in the east giving any serious thought to joining the Force. Could be (will be) a few in Force thinking it would be a whole lot more comfortable back in the east. Like I said we are at the crossroads and head in the sand will not work - do we seriously think there are 14 players going out there tonight who are all 100% our number 9?

My guess is that because thay have such strict "in season" and after match testing that this was last chance for session before the season begins.

In no way am I defending the boys, it's just my guess.

The West Australian reported the other day that not all the players present were drinking alcohol at the Sunday sesh and as far as i've seen there's no record of how intoxicated the players that were consuming alcohol were....though in Sare and Henjak's case the probability is quite high. Personally, i dont care how much booze they're drinking as long as they perform at training and on-match day

Also, found this on Fox Sports

    Force are closer together: Giteau

    February 15, 2008

AUSTRALIA star Matt Giteau claims the furore over the fight between close friend Matt Henjak and teammate Haig Sare, which could see both players sacked by the Western Force, has actually brought their team closer together.

Henjak was to partner Giteau behind the scrum for the Force against the powerful Sharks in Durban early Saturday (0410 AEDT), despite the threat to Henjak's career caused by the altercation in a Fremantle bar on Sunday which left Sare with a broken jaw.

Speaking ahead of the Super 14 opener, Giteau threw his full support behind his troubled teammate saying the controversy had been a "minor distraction".

"As a side you support the team through anything and personally I support Matty through anything. As a side, if anything, it's brought us closer together," Giteau said.

"Our whole focus has been on the game. Obviously it has had a minor disruption to the side, but if anything it has brought us closer together and from a personal point of view I support Matty through anything.

"He's a great mate of mine. This (match) will be good for him, get his mind off it a little bit."

Henjak and Sare will both face a Western Force disciplinary hearing via video link on Tuesday over the incident, with the threat of the Australian Rugby Union dishing out their own penalties also hanging over the players.

Despite ARU CEO John O'Neill saying he believed Henjak should not even be in South Africa let alone playing while the matter was being investigated, Giteau said Henjak's experience was vital to the Force in their daunting season opener.

"Matt has a lot of experience, he drives the forwards really well, he organises them well," Giteau said.

"From a five-eighth point of view he gives some great service. He's got a great pass.

"Obviously being good mates we really understand each other's game really well and I think we've got a connection on the field.

"He'll being playing well hopefully, mentally Matty's looking forward to it. It'll be a good distraction for him and I expect him to play well.

"It was unfortunate what happened, but from a player's point of view we're just worried about the game."

Henjak's disciplinary record is likely to weigh heavily against him, with incidents while on tour with the Wallabies and the Brumbies, and further allegations of an incident at former Brumbies teammate Owen Finegan's leaving party in 2005 coming to light this week.

The Nine network reported Henjak bit and hit lower-grade Randwick player Michael Girvan in 2005 at the farewell.

Police were reportedly called and statements taken, but the matter was dropped when Henjak agreed to contribute $5,000 to charity.

i see Bloody Campo is jumping on the band wagon now, the guy irks me even more than Growden. His articles last year and the year before last were so blinkered & one sided they were laughable...

I certainly hope the Force thrash the Sharks tonight evenif its just to prove Campo wrong.

I have to admit I was a little surprised the boys were out on the squirt. But I am more surprised at how easily people extend things - an afternoon at the Sunday session so easily becomes a 5 hour binge. Surprised they could fight, when they were obviously falling over dribbly blotto.

If drinking is out of the question two days before a flight, how much more limiting must training be (after all, they do that every day)? Maybe we should do a poll for them - how far in advance of the season do folk think they should become teetotal recluses, only allowed out of their boxes for publicity events, training and playing?

A poll would be interesting .. amongst the players. I know there are many who take their jobs seriously and don't drink at all from pre season untill the end of season. professional rugby is different to club rugby where grog was a major and very important part of why we played! they don't have to be saints they just have to be sensible. But saying they can drink as much as they like providing they turn up and play well is a nonsense in todays game.

How well is Gilly going!!! 100 from him a forerunner for tonight???

Actually that would be interesting, particularly on a non-attributable basis. There are team protocols on drinking, but you'd expect they would be based on some middle ground.

That said, of course drinking was an important part of playing - not because people only play as an excuse to drink, but because it is a significant part of team bonding. It is not the beer per se (and it is not just rugby), but all walks of life use alcohol as a social lubricant and an excuse to gather as a group. I am sure everyone has been in a team situation at some point or other...who do you feel the strongest bond with, the folk you socialise with or those who show up, do their thing and disappear again until tomorrow? I suppose they could smoke stuff to relax, or maybe give each other sensual massages to create that close bonding experience, but I suspect most would prefer to stick with the tried and true having a beer around the barbie.

Oh, and Go Gilly - would love to be there, but it always seems to be when I can't make it that he has the big day.

Classic - it would go some way to explaining the monstrosity that Puse has grown on his phiz too. But hope to God we haven't stumbled on the cause of the left bank, right hook incident
