Injuries hit Wallabies turn to next big task
    24th August 2008, 8:00 WST

The Wallabies could be forced to face their biggest South African examination next Saturday without stars Berrick Barnes, Dan Vickerman and Rocky Elsom after injury and the citing commissioner dampened Australia's gutsy 27-15 win in Durban.

Barnes left ABSA Stadium in the 20th minute and Vickerman a minute before the halftime break - both with shoulder injuries - as the gallant Australians went on to claim their first victory on South African soil in eight years.

Elsom was cited for dangerous play after he man-handled Springboks captain Victor Matfield while jumping in a lineout.

A kick in this game is like a rather nasty alcoholic shooter, only as good as it's chaser...

“Let me put it this way, A Springbok team contains Afrikaners, Englishmen, coloureds and blacks. It has parochial foes in Bulls, Sharks, Stormers, Cheetahs and Lions. It is a recipe for war! Yet in all the years of John Smit’s captaincy, there has never been one unhappy customer, not one voice of rebellion against his leadership. He is the glue that holds the Springboks together. The man is a legend!”- Jake White

Aussie Rob mentioned after the game they might be calling on Sharpie for the next game.

That is great news for the big fella if he does get the call up!

Matfield landed on his feet, i thought the penalty was enough (although my language at the time may not have showed this)

Elsom should be right, it was nothing worse then what has happened in the past and he was penalised at the time for it.

Depending on how bad Horwills concussion is i expect he will be rested next week, probably replaced with Mumm in the starting lineup. Same goes for Vickerman, we might see Sharpie put back in the starting lineup as well.

It will be interesting to see what they do with Berrick, they probably wont risk making the injury any worse since next week is almost a dead rubber match anyway. I think we might see a Tahu-Mortlock centre partnership which could be quite interesting.
