    New coach?

Lets just say the unthinkable happens and Mitch is put (at great expense) to pasture, who will be the coach?

Considering no one is available right now, Link is doing well in France, Eddie Jones wouldnt have a bar of us, Nuci just wouldnt come here there are not alot of options.

    Maybe Alan Jones?

    Any ideas?

Aside from existing coaching staff - Would Welborn or Cannon have what it takes?

Don't change the subject Coach. I expected to see something along the lines Fulvio alluded to when I spotted the thread title.

there are plenty of australians coaching overseas in europe who would be more then happy to come back to Australa and coach a Super14 side.

On top of that im sure there would be plenty of foreign coaches around the world happy to move to Australia for a coaching position.

When is irrelevant because only a complete idiot would try to bring in a brand new coach now. If John went now Mulvers would take over.

If he went later as TOCC said something like a quarter of Premiership teams have Australian coaches so there is plenty of choice.

How much is less important than the potential prestige. I would imagine a lot of coaches would take the pay cut to take a crack at the Super 14. Which is simply more competitive than the GP and a truer test of a coaches mettle.

Yes, I see your points (kinda)

But WHO do you think might make a suitable coach?
WHEN do you think that coach would come?
    HOW much would they cost?

Just an excersise in seeing who you think would do the job, not who in general could do the job. I am pretty sure the Force are not just sitting there thinking, 'well there are plenty of top quality coaches out there that would love to coach S14'...

They will be thinking, WHO, WHEN and HOW much...

Am I the only person here that is slightly concerned that the team are about to roll into this season with either no coach, or a coach under duress?

Disclaimer: I have full faith in Mitch, his ability and that he will see out his contract.

    That said...

Yes, I agree with James, if it happened before or during the season I am pretty confident that they would leave Mulvers as the caretaker Coach and then consider options (including how he performed) near the end of the season.
They would need to have it sorted prior to contract negotiations for the players you would assume.
I certainly couldn't see Mulvers staying on as an Assistant if he put his hand up for consideration as the Head, so they could well be on the look out for a package deal too.

In choosing a Coach they would also be choosing a direction or style of play and it seems (thankfully) that RWA support an open flowing style of SH attacking Rugby that is atractive to watch and appealing to Western Australian's generally (ie, not just us die hards) as well.

If that is to continue then you would find it hard to stake an argument for some of the NH based Coaches who have been stuck in the NH grind and kick penalty mentality by and large. These are now more suited as Specialist Coaches in the SH IMHO.

Although others disagreed last time, I would still see Nucifora as the leading contender, especially now he is free of an overseas contract and in the ARU network again.

Others to consider would be from amongst the ARC (Melbourne- Bill Millard, Central Coast- John McKee, West Sydney- Brian Melrose) and also Sydney University Coach Damien Hill.

A little more left field would be Glenn Ella, with a dedicated Forwards/Set Piece Coach.

    Probably.

    There are three options:

    a) No coach- Bearing in mind the massive cost of a new coach when Mitch has 3 years running on his contract he would have had to have dug himself a very, very deep hole for the board to decide he couldn't continue as coach. If things were really that bad, and I don't believe that they are, surely its for the better not having him. Mulvihill takes on the coaching role. I'm with Coach: Bring back an ex player to be a forwards coach. If Trevor Woodman is going to help out a bit with the front rowers get Welborn (he's in Perth anyway) to run the forwards.

    b) Coach under duress- Many teams have thrived under a coach under duress. Anyway the bridges within the team couldn't possibily be that badly burnt if so many players (Cross, Sharpie, Shepherd, Pocock, O'Connor) ended up re-signing. So rebuild them. John Mitchell is an adult and a professional if it is clear that his approach is taking its toll he can ease off a bit. Ask yourself BB, if you have one, do you actually like your boss? I'm not the worlds biggest fan of mine but it doesn't stop me from putting in 100% at work. And if I had the choice I would probably choose a different one but it doesn't mean I'm not going to work hard. I hope the players are the same.

    c) Fully able and entitled coach- By far the best option. Not much more needs to be said about this one.

I think everyone would rather that this wasn't happening but I think everyone has just gotten over it. No point stressing about it.

We're all probably a little concerned but we've had months of nagative speculation on various issues, probably time to give it a rest. When (and if) Mitchell leaves will be the time to speculate as appropriate.

For now I'd rather speculate about the makeup of the team..will JO'C start and if so where? Who's going to be fullback and on the wings? Who's the starting 9? etc etc. I think that'll be more fun.
