Union juniors sacked
Five talented young Mudgee Rugby Union players may walk away from the sport after being sacked from the Central West Under 16 Rugby Academy squad last week.
Beau Shipley, Cody Boness, James Sheridan, Mitchell Devine and Jack Lewsley were chosen in the squad along with Dylan Sanders, Adyn Rhodes, Brent Bartrim, Thomas Lord and Joshua Cookson in October last year.
These players at the time of their selection had to commit to training on November 23, December 7, February 15, March 1 and March 15 along with Regional academy games in Armidale this coming week.
On March 4 they were advised they would also be required for a trial match at Coonabarabran on Sunday, April 5.
Players were advised they were to attend 90 per cent of the training sessions to remain in the squad. However, when Devine, Boness, Sheridan, Shipley and Lewsley did not play for the Wombats last Saturday they were called on to explain why and to confirm their registration with a junior rugby club.
This quintet had played rugby league at Oberon that Saturday, not knowing they were expected to play for the Wombats and did not play at Coonabarabran on Sunday.
