Fox Sports commentator Greg Clark previews the South Africa-Lions Test

It might only come around every four years but the British and Irish Lions are primed for the opening match of their three Test series against South Africa.

The Lions will have played six matches on tour; meaning coach Ian McGeechan has had ample opportunities to test several combinations.

The Lions play a tour match against the Southern Kings at Port Elizabeth on Tuesday night (EST) before heading to Durban.

With the Springboks still enjoying world champions status and containing a squad dominated by players from Super 14 champions the Bulls, many thought the series might be one-way traffic.

But judging by results in the lead-up games, the Lions should be very competitive. Sure, they might be at the end of a very long season but the honour of playing in the famous Lions' jumper will be enough motivation to get them through a few more games.

Playing the first Test in Durban will suit the tourists because it's at sea level and they recorded a resounding victory over Currie Cup champions the Sharks at the venue recently.
