Finishing touches put on giant golf course

The 'world's longest' golf course will officially open in October.

The 18-hole course will stretch more than 1,300 kilometres across the Nullarbor, with starting points in Kalgoorlie, in Western Australia, and Ceduna in South Australia.

The secretary of the Eyre Highway Operators Association, Alf Caputo, says six holes are still being finished and the course should be playable by August.

Mr Caputo says it has been a challenging five years bringing the project to fruition.

"Putting together logistics of that size is a major challenge, an absolute massive challenge," he said.

"The logistics of actually building these holes with such an amazing distance between each one and actually being able to product to each site has been an experience all on its own."

Mr Caputo says the course will attract people from all over the world to the region.

"The amount of interest that this project has commanded from all over the world, the interest has been amazing," he said.

"Our feasibility study, which was done a couple of years ago, suggested that 26,000 people would play the course in its first year. We're very confident there'll be a lot more people."

He's talking it up a bit, a couple of hundred trucks go over that highway every day, he's not building along the Canning Stockroute or anything...
Good luck to them though, I recall hearing when the project started.
