Nathan Sharpe: Loss broke Brumbies back

    http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/spo...brumbies-back/

"It certainly was a shock to see Brumbies coach Andy Friend sacked after only two games of the Super Rugby season.

Coming off the loss to the Rebels there has been much revealed in the Brumbies camp over the last few days.

You can bet the result last Friday night was the straw that broke the back of a problem rumoured to have been brewing for well over a year now.

Not many coaches get asked to leave after one disappointing loss and it is always interesting to see how teams bounce back.

Knowing many of the players in their side well, there is a genuine possibility the team will rally around each other, become tighter as a group and perform well this weekend against a Reds outfit that is also sure to be hurting after a loss to the Waratahs.

Many teams use adversity to strengthen their resolve. It will be interesting to see if this is the case with the Brumbies of 2011.

Certainly previous results would give the Canberra boys a huge boost in confidence with the Reds not taking their scalp since way back in 1999.

I was just a youngster in the Queensland squad back then with a full head of flowing locks.

The Emirates Western Force had to wait 11 agonising games to register their first win, and so it was with many fond memories that I watched the Melbourne Rebels beat the Brumbies.

The emotion of our debut win was stirring but nothing compared to that first win at home against the Hurricanes in our second year. The stadium went absolutely bananas that night in a scene that was very similar to the one that played out last Friday.

It was a just reward for the Rebels, the question now is can they do it again.

Our first home game of the new season comes at a terrific time for us. While we had a bye last weekend we trained extremely hard with a view to tapering our preparations leading into the game on Saturday night against the Sharks.

I can tell you that the men in blue are refreshed and excited about the upcoming battle at our home ground in front of our loyal supporters.

The Sharks have had a fast start to the season with two wins and have a strong forward pack which loves physical confrontation.

These are the games that are great to play in. We know what's coming and a bruising encounter awaits."

Thought for a minute, he might spill the beans.
Will have to wait for the book!
