It is widely assumed that White's background as Springboks coach will help him to recruit a marquee import.
An informed source has told The Weekend Australian that Pienaar's name has been mentioned in discussions.
There is a feeling in Canberra that the Brumbies never adequately replaced former Australia captain and halfback George Gregan, who retired from Test football after the 2007 World Cup in France. White once compared Pienaar to Gregan's former Wallabies halves partner, Stephen Larkham, the Brumbies' current backs coach, which is high praise.
Pienaar, who can play halfback, five-eighth and fullback, is a clever runner with a deft pass and is also an accurate goal-kicker.
The son of former Springboks fullback Gysie Pienaar, he played Super Rugby with the Sharks and made his Springboks debut under White's coaching in 2006 and was a member of South Africa's successful World Cup squad.
He is currently playing for Ulster in the Magners League.
Didn't they sign Josh Valentine as the super scrum half.......never mind, I've figured out the problems with that decision!

Ruan Pienaar would be a good fit for the Brumbies. Good luck to them on nabbing him. Josh Valentine to the Melbourne Rebels?
Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast.
Peinaar is a good 10 or 15 option as well.. his height is an advantage over other multipurpose scrumhalves like Stannard or Kingi... Ive always liked his style of play reminds me of Henry Honibal (SA's most underratted 10 in the last 20 years)
Pretty sure Pienaar won't sign unless he has guarantees over the 9 jersey. I thought that was why he left the Sharks as they had him at 10 with Kockett.

Good point Giteau gets to hook up with his schoolboy buddy Henjak at Toulon... and get to do that they wanted to do to the Force so many years ago... Good luck to them both...Toulon is rapidly becoming the Brumbies northern hemisphere base. George gregan, George Smith, Matty Henjak and Matt Giteau all in a few years...
That one does!
