Emirates Western Force front rower Nathan Charles has returned Perth this week after a stint playing with UK side Gloucester and not only has got straight back into training but also eagerly jumped straight back into his ambassadorial role with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Charles and fellow Emirates Western Force team mate Nick Cummins will be behind bars on Thursday, November 10 when they attend the ‘Convict for a Cause’ event at Fremantle Prison. The unique charity fundraiser will help raise awareness and much need dollars to help the excellent work of the CF Foundation, Rotary International and Diabetes WA.
Inmates will be placed in cells until they can ‘post bail’ with donations from their friends and family. All money raised will go straight to the three charities. Both Charles and Cummins will patrol the cells as wardens but likely spend a bit of time in the cells themselves to encourage extra donations!
“It’ll be a bit of fun down at Fremantle Prison, I’m obviously not used to being in jail so I’m hoping there will be plenty of people down there to donate lots of money to bail me out,” said Charles with a smile.
“I’m really keen to encourage people to raise as much money as possible with part of the proceeds going to the CF Foundation which is very important to me as well as two other fantastic charities.”
Charles and Cummins will be at Fremantle Prison this Thursday night from 7.00pm-9.00pm.

It’s a busy couple of weeks for the CF Foundation with the Great Strides Walkathon taking place at Lake Monger on Sunday, November 20 which Charles will be attending as well a number of his Emirates Western Force team mates.
The players will join other participants in the leisurely 3.8km walk with all money raised by the participants going straight back to the CF Foundation.
“Participants in the walk have all been raising money in the lead up to the event so it’s a great opportunity for us to get out there and thank them for their donations,” Charles said.
“We’ll also be signing autographs and meeting everyone after the walk at the carnival so register to enter the walk today and start fundraising for this great cause and we’ll see you there,” added Charles.

Dear Lord, if you give us back Johnny Cash, we'll give you Justin Bieber.
Great to see our players getting involved in charitable causes.
Nathan, while having a vested interest has certainly stepped up to the mark and growning into an outstanding youngster.
Talk about role models the Force is sure putting its best feet forawrd with the like of these two and Bam Bam.
Simon Cron: “People talk about winning and losing all the time and they are critical, but there’s a process to get into and it’s the ability to stay present, do your job and execute skills under pressure.”
Charles will be the next wallabies hooker great player great person he is an asset to the force that we must invest in and keep around for along time. Him and Poey are 2 of a kind!
