Jake White quits the Brumbies

WORLD Cup-winning coach Jake White is understood to have quit as coach of the Brumbies.

White, 50, had two years remaining on his Brumbies contract. He led the Canberra-based franchise from the Super Rugby wilderness to the finals this season.

White was spotted in his native South Africa earlier this month at a Western Province training session at Newlands.

White boasts an impressive coaching resume. He led the Springboks to the Tri Nations trophy in 2004 and the World Cup three years later.

He was named Australian Super Rugby coach of the year last month after leading the Brumbies to the final - a match they would lose to the Chiefs by five points.

The Brumbies had not made the play-offs since 2004 and finished a lowly 13th two seasons prior.

Hell of a shame in my mind. I thought (from articles Id read etc) that he was 'building the club', and was saying all the right things that suggested he cared for the club and its future... makes you ponder, not all things last, so we'd better get behind Foles! haha.

I get that Jake and his wife missed their sons. I also get that Mrs W maybe wasn't happy in Australia. What I don't get is why then did he apply for the Wallabies job?

Guess he must have thought that being the coach of a national team was worth the price of continuing to miss his sons "terribly" and continuing to make his wife unhappy.

Then again, a cynic might say he's making more of the family issues than there is, just to make him not look like a rat for walking out on the Brumbies and not a sore loser for missing out on the Wallabies job.

Only Jake knows the truth.
