Speight's?

So the rugby tour in NZ 2008 introduced me to a god awful beer by the name of Speight's... such an awful beverage that even hardened drinkers chose to try hide the taste by adding cordial (if memory serves correctly). Fast forward to 2013, my kiwi decided he would buy "his sweet" a little present - an entire carton of Speight's, knowing full well my thoughts on the issue... being the adventurous person I am, I decided to go it again. Too my surprise the Speight's tasted pretty good... so good we managed to clear out the carton in one session.

So, my question - was Speight's really as bad as I remember or have I just become accustom to the taste of really shitty beer?! Or have they actually changed the brew?

I was over there this time last year and we did the tour of the brewery if I remember they were in the middle of/had just changed some of the units they used to brew the stuff in so it may have changed the taste a bit it was an alright beer in the bar after the tour.

Can't say I've ever minded it and I'm generally not real tolerant of under-performing ales. Maybe it was a particular beer in the range rather than the whole lot?

Speights old dark,from memory,was the only one that tasted half decent--on the other hand NZ produces some really good craft beers,Tuatara & Epic pale ales are right up there

well if the weekend is anything to go by, Kiwi beer will be underwhelming until the last dribble, at which time it produces a game saving try and crushes the hopes of English and Irish people!
