Mitchell Chapman Wallaby and Reds News

    Surgery for Chapman

    Sportal

The World Cup dreams of Reds flanker Mitchell Chapman could be over with reports indiacting he needs to undergo shoulder surgery.

The 24-year-old former Australian Schoolboy captain was named in John Connolly's 59-man Wallabies train-on squad earlier this week, after starring as one of the most consistent performers for the Reds this season starting in all 13 of Queensland's games.

Chapman, who earned a late call-up to the Wallabies Spring Tour of the Northern Hemisphere last November, was keen to build on his solid representative platform and had been earmarked to play for Australia A in the five-round Pacific Nations Cup in May/June.

However, the Courier Mail reported the in-form lineout specialist needs to undergo shoulder surgery as soon as next week, meaning he will be unavailable to impress selectors over the upcoming international period.

Chapman is expected to be sidelined for six weeks after the surgery.

The Brumbies are close to signing promising Queensland Reds forward Mitchell Chapman for next year's Super 14 rugby union season.

Flanker Daniel Heenan is reportedly considering a move to Japan and Chapman is seen as an ideal replacement in the ACT.

Brumbies chief executive Andrew Fagan said negotiations were close to being finalised.

Why would that stop the selectors from keeping him, look at the rest of the injury list they have selected.

It's pretty much a done deal from what the Canberra Times was saying the signing is expected to be announced tomorrow formally.
